“Absolutely stoked with this gear. Awesome getting such a solid signal with no interference. We were in heavy d.fir and the dogs had a pig a couple of kms away in another gully. I expected the receiver would give us an approximate direction but this stuff was bang on and very clear. Just wish I had got some ages ago, dogs coming back ripped and not even hearing anything or knowing what direction they had been. I have used or been out with hunters using a range of other tracking brands but this stuff is certainly miles above the rest.” Josh P. (Works for a forestry company up North.)
“These are real good eh. My mate showed me how to use his and I figured em out real easy. Out hunting the other day. Ended up 5-6km away from the dogs and they tracked the dogs real good.” UK from Taumaranui
“Man these are really effective. We caught a 190+pound boar last weekend and if we didn’t have these trackers I would have had two dead dogs. My mate had his NM10’s and normally these are work well but he just couldn’t figure out the direction. My Contact Pro ones showed exactly which way to go. I’m really pleased with them eh.” LM from Rai Valley, Marlborough
This Contact Pro tracker is so easy to use. Before I bought this tracker I owned a R1000 tracking unit. It was a good unit but it was hard to use because of the size of it. In thick bush you really didn’t want to get it out because the aerial was so big you that it was hard to track the dog. This tracker is small and easy to use and it is not a problem. The r1000 also didn’t give you as good as direction as this tracker. This track is really directionally accurate.
When I first bought this tracker I wondered how good it would be at distance but I have never had a problem with my dog getting out of it range. It does 8 kms happily. I believe that because this tracker is so small and easy to get out that you start to track your dog early and that the dog doesn’t get so far away. I know when I using the r1000 I would think that the dog wouldn’t be too far away because I couldn’t be bothered taking my pack off, getting the aerial out and unfolding the anteaters out and plugging it in. The difference between this tracker and the r1000 is it takes 2sec to get and to start tracking your dog and isn’t this why you buy a tracker to use it. “HB from Canterbury
“hi MB ive tryed that contact pro a few times and a mate of mine uses it hes had all kinds of gear even that tracker stuff this gear is easy to use and works blimmin good.” Smokey dog, Northland
“I know a guy who has it and recons its bloody good, you can track pretty much right to the collar, am looking into it my self the hp option is reasonable.” Zinger, Masterton
“Had a go of the contact pro last week and i found me bitch on a pig about 300 meters away no stuffing around just turned it on adjust the gain and point.” Crazy
“I have the Contact Pro collars and i cant fault them champ” Boarbags
“We were very happy with the contact pro it was our first trip to the cape with trackers and they made life a LOT easier..” Duff from Aussie
“These are magic to use compared to my Uncles other handheld one of a different brand. These are so easy to operate. I like to use it on silent mode and just use the lights. My Uncle was fluffing round trying to figure out which way his tracker had said the dogs had gone and I just whipped my tracker out and it showed me straight away which direction we should be going in.”
“I bought the Contact Pro tracking gear from NZ Hunting Products about 4 months ago. It consisted of the receiver & 2 collars. I have refrained from posting anything on this gear untill I had used & tested it extensively in the field over a lengthy period of time. Upon receipt of the gear I checked out both the receiver and collars. The tranmitters on the collars are the type that you can replace the batteries yourself. The cover is held on with 4 heavy screws, which I undid to check underneath. There is a heavy O ring which is used to waterproof the transmitter. I coated this O ring on both collars with a smear of Vaseline, to both make the O ring seal better, and to help it slide into the groove easier without getting squashed.
Both collars have been used every weekend on 2 of my dogs. They have been rolled in mudholes, swum through creeks & rivers and dams, and had conflict with Boris. I am pleased to report that both my transmitters have remained completely waterproof and unscathed. They are turned on & off via either a small keyring magnet, or the magnet in the actual receiver itself. The aerials themselves appear to be robust, having not suffered any damage at all, but are easily replaced by a couple of screws without needing to open the unit up. The collars themselves are a bright orange, and make the dogs wearing them easily visable in the bush. They appear to be hard wearing and of a sturdy construction, again without any damage over the time I have had them. The receiver is of the plastic housing type, but is strong and robust. It is brillant to use, having small, built in extendable antena. It takes about 30 seonds to take it out the canvas belt pouch, pull out the 4 small antena and turn the receiver on. The receiver is water resistent and I have used it in the rain extensively with no ill effect. It runs on 2 AA batteries, supposedly giving about 15 hours use.
I have used it every weekend for 4 months, and are still on the original batteries. I am carrying a spare set to change in the field when I eventually have to. The receiver tunes into the collars with both a beeping and light diodes running up a scale. After some familarising with the unit over a few weeks, it becomes quite easy to get a good idea of roughly how far away your tracked dog is, by how high you have to tune the light diodes up the scale. The tranmitters have motion sensors built in, and again, it takes only a short time to determine when your tracked dog is moving or stationary. It is simple to tune into either one of your collars (or any number of different collars you might be running on the one receiver). You can tune back and forth to check the direction of either dog wearing the collar with a couple of presses of the button on the receiver. You can literally track right to the collar without any mistake or false alarms. The receiver has next to no signal reflection, the strongest signal always being the direction the tracked collar is. The unit is lightweight, easy to use, robust and extremely accurate.
I particularly like the fact you can change the transmitter battery yourself when need be, without having to send your collar away, with sometimes lengthy delays in getting it back. (The batteries are available either from NZ Hunting Products, or via Trademe, at a reasonable cost). The receiver is relatively small, simple to tune into your collars, simple to use, and brilliantly accurate, and giving an indication of whether your tracked dog is stationary or moving, and an indication of distance away from you. It doesn’t have any leads or cables, or external antena to carry around like some other brands do. I have tracked to about 8 kms to date, but the manual says it will operate to 10+ kms. On only several occasions have I run out of signal, but within 10/15 minutes of climbing to a higher point, I have regained the signal. In summing up, the whole unit is robust, waterproof, quick & easy to use, deadly accurate, and user friendly. I have no hesitation in recommending this brand of tracking gear. It may be a little on the higher priced side, but you get what you pay for, and this gear is GOOD in all aspects. If anyone wants to know anything else that I may not have covered, or not thought of, I will be happy to answer any questions.” Wizard.
I also brought some of this gear about 2 months ago, like you say wizard1 it is deadly accurate and so easy to use, the only thing wrong i’ve found is you can get some interferance if you have a dog next to you with a collar on but you only need to move away five metres from the dog and its clear as a bell, i’ve used mn10 and thats excellent gear also but for ease of use and accuracy the contact pro seems better.” 2dogs
